Diabetes Education

MercyOne Centerville is pleased to offer a Diabetic Education program that is recognized by the American Diabetic Assocation.

Our staff includes Diabetic Education Nurses, a Registered Dietition and Health Coach who offer education and training in a group setting or individual appointments for patients and families who are newly diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 or Type 2 or Gestational Diabetes.

Education includes information on the physiology of diabetes and ways to control it with diet, exercise, and medications. Instructions are given on monitoring blood sugars at home and how to recognize and treat episodes of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.

Follow-up evaluation and downloading of home glucometers are also provided to assist in regulating medications and adjusting treatment.
