MercyOne Des Moines Surgical Group is a multi-specialty surgical group with advanced, trained surgeons in surgical oncology, colon and rectal surgery and general surgery.

Surgical Oncology

Our surgical oncologists are devoted to multidisciplinary care and surgical management of solid tumor cancer patients. Optimal surgery timing is crucial for securing the best-possible outcomes.

Surgical oncology treatments can remove the cancer, reduce the tumor size and help to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

Our breast care surgeons provide in-office diagnostic services at MercyOne Katzmann Breast Care for procedures such as an ultrasound-guided breast biopsy to help locate a lump or abnormality and remove a tissue sample. They also guide patients to determine the best treatment plan which could include procedures such as: 

  • Lumpectomy, breast-conserving surgery
  • Mastectomy

Colon and Rectal Surgery

Our colon and rectal surgeons work closely with MercyOne Des Moines Cancer Center, the only center in Iowa to have earned a three-year accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). Our team-based care approach assures our patients one-on-one support throughout every step of their cancer journey, from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship.
