About

Dr. Mark Bissing, a native of Leawood, KS, has two very good reasons for choosing the cardiology profession. One is his father, who suffered a heart attack while he was in medical school. The other is his daughter, Dana, who was born with a hole in her heart. Surgery corrected the condition, but the experience focused his career on cardiology. 

After attaining a biology degree from Baker University, Dr. Bissing earned a medical degree from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City. He then completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology, both at the University of Iowa.

Dr. Bissing joined Iowa Heart Center in 1995. He is board certified in general and nuclear cardiology, and currently practices at Iowa Heart Center's West University clinic in West Des Moines.

Stood in line to check in for unbelievably long time considering the fact that I preregistered twice on line!!! What a waste of my very valuable time! The nurse upstairs to check my carotid artery was waiting outside the door for me?!? And unfortunately the nurse before Dr Bissing seemed to be having a crappy Monday! She seemed to want to debate me more than anything! Dr Bissing was very professional like always, but always seems rushed! Hopefully it is not a situation where he has to see so many patients an hour just to make a living!

Dr Bissing understands I have anxiety and affects my blood pressure while in the offfice and I monitor it at home and readings normal or beloiw normal.

The assistant who came out to get me was having a bad day. I was filling out paperwork on ipad and evidently I wasn鈥檛 going quick enough for her. She took the ipad out of my hands without asking or introducing herself. She then proceeded to start filling the paperwork on her own. It was a little frustrating for me because I read paperwork before signing and I still had enough time to finish before my appointment time.
