Referral Information

Do I need a referral to receive care through PCI?

While most of our patients are referred to us by other health care providers, you may call our office directly to schedule an appointment in the situations below:

  • If you are considering pregnancy, but have concerns due to problems in a previous pregnancy, concerning family history or your health, you can schedule a preconception consultation visit.
  • If you are currently pregnant and had previous problems with pregnancy or a medical condition that might impact pregnancy, you may request a referral from your primary OB for an appointment to be seen by a perinatologist to review your personal history.
  • If you are expecting more than one baby, you can request your primary OB to schedule a referral to see a perinatologist at MercyOne Perinatal Center.

Patient Billing

Payment or co-payment for office services is expected at the time care is received. Our office accepts payment by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. For your convenience, a list of our fees is available upon request.

We participate with most insurance plans; however, it is your responsibility to know if your insurance company permits you to be seen in our office without a referral from a primary care physician or if your benefits may be reduced because of out-of-network services.

If your insurance requires pre-certification for you to be seen in our office, please check with your primary physician’s office to see that this has been completed.

After your appointment, we will submit charges on your behalf to your insurance company.  If we do not participate with your particular insurance company, you will be responsible for any amount above your insurance company’s allowed amount.

Referral Labs

We partner with proven laboratories to ensure our patients receive the highest quality, most accurate test results.

In most cases, the testing facility we send your sample to will bill your insurance company directly. Because some health insurance companies require certain types of tests to be sent to specific labs, we recommend you contact your insurance company ahead of time to determine if it has policies about using a particular lab for the test(s) you are having.

If you receive instructions from your health insurance company, please let us know so we can note them in your chart. You may also ask your insurance company to contact us directly with questions.
