Mercy College Scholarships Help Students Thrive
September 29, 2022Every year, Mercy College of Health Sciences transforms students into successful health care professionals to care for our community. Scholarships are a vital resource to help students thrive and continue their education.
Gabby Gonzalez-Huisenga is a current Mercy College student working towards her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and her dream of becoming a nurse.
“When I was younger, I always knew I wanted to help other people,” said Gabby. “I am excited to graduate and become a nurse so I can do just that.”
Gabby is a recipient of the Thomas A. Reitinger Endowed Scholarship, which supports nursing students in financial need. This scholarship is one of the many endowed, donor-funded scholarships at Mercy College.
As a mom of a young boy as well, Gabby explains that also being a full-time student is hard, but he is her motivation to keep going.
“I want to become a nurse so that I can show my son that I did it while I had him and that he can do whatever he wants to do in this world,” said Gabby.
Scholarships help ease the stress that comes with paying for college. Students can use scholarships to help pay for books, tuition or anything they need for school.
Mercy College offers over $300,000 in scholarships each year for students of merit and in financial need. Contributions made to the general scholarship fund or to one of the many endowed scholarship funds directly impact students like Gabby and support them as they become our future health care leaders.
“These scholarships are important to me because it shows that someone else recognizes that I am trying and that they support me becoming a nurse,” said Gabby. “Just knowing someone is out there to support you and encourage you in your schooling means a lot.”
“Thank you so much to those who have donated to Mercy College scholarships,” said Gabby. “I am so appreciative and I know so many other students who are as well.”
Gifts made to the Mercy College Scholarship Fund help students like Gabby achieve their dreams of becoming great health care professionals. You can impact students’ lives today.
