About MercyOne Elkader Sleep Center
Sleep studies are offered by appointment at MercyOne Elkader Medical Center to determine if a patient has obstructive sleep apnea. A private, single patient room is available at the hospital. MercyOne partners with sleep specialists from Midwest Sleep Studies Services to perform the sleep study.
Sleep apnea is an involuntary cessation of breathing that occurs while the patient is asleep. Left untreated, sleep apnea can have serious and life-shortening consequences: high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, automobile accidents caused by falling asleep at the wheel, diabetes, depression, and other ailments.
Talk to your primary care provider about whether a home sleep study is right for you, and get a referral for a sleep study. Some insurance companies are now requiring patients to pursue an in-home sleep test prior to approving an in-lab sleep test. If your primary care provider has determined that you need a sleep study, please contact us to schedule an appointment.
