MercyOne Children’s Hospital Heart Superheroes featured at 2022 Principal Charity Classic

MercyOne Children’s Hospital Heart Superheroes will be featured at the 2022 Principal Charity Classic. These eight children – ranging in age from three years old to 11 years old – are patients who experienced life-saving cardiac care surgeries and procedures at MercyOne Children’s Hospital. On Friday, June 3, they will be on-site at Principal Charity Classic at Wakonda Club in Des Moines.

The Heart Superheroes will also be on MercyOne Des Moines Foundation, MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and Principal Charity Classic social media accounts leading up and during the tournament. MercyOne Children’s Hospital is pleased to serve as a Principal Charity Classic Tournament Charity Partner. Proceeds from Principal Charity Classic have impacted the pediatric cardiac care program at MercyOne Children’s Hospital in meaningful ways, as it has provided funding for a new, innovative echocardiography machine and the innovative Beads of Courage arts-in-medicine program.

The Principal Charity Classic, the annual and award-winning PGA TOUR Champions event in Des Moines, raised a record $7.3 million in support of Iowa kids in 2021. The event has now donated more than $37 million since 2007. Funds raised by the Principal Charity Classic support four Tournament Charity Partners in the Des Moines area – including MercyOne Des Moines Foundation – as well as more than 90 organizations – including MercyOne Children’s Hospital – throughout Iowa enrolled in the tournament’s “Birdies For Charity” program.
