Easier Vein Visualization for Patients at MercyOne North Iowa
June 16, 2024MercyOne North Iowa Foundation donors recently made it possible for the Cardiovascular Diagnostics Department to purchase a new vein finder visualization system to better serve patients in our community.
A vein finder is a non-invasive tool that uses infrared light to project real-time images of a patient’s veins onto the skin’s surface. This allows health care professionals to accurately locate veins for IV insertion, which can prove especially helpful for patients with veins that are challenging to find. The vein finder tool eliminates the physical discomfort for those individuals who may require multiple needlesticks to get an IV placed using traditional methods of vein visualization.
Diagnostic Cardiology Specialty RN Vickki Kirchhoff speaks on how the tool will improve patient satisfaction:
Currently, we may have to wait a long time for the PICC team to come and help us place difficult IV starts on patients due to poor visualization of their veins. This device will help us get patients prepped quickly for their scheduled test and will also help to reduce the number of IV attempts.
Jenna Voet, Director of Cardiovascular Services, further emphasizes the importance of philanthropic contributions in enhancing care offered at MercyOne North Iowa:
Donations to our heart center make such a difference for us. Hospitals are under a lot of financial strain, and there are never enough resources to make all the improvements we hope to each year. Because of donors, we’re able to make these significant investments in care.
