Des Moines, Iowa; April 2, 2024 — The annual MercyOne Katzmann Breast Center Iowa and the MercyOne Richard Deming Cancer Center Breast Cancer Symposium will be held on April 16 at the MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, East Tower Auditorium, 1111 6th Ave., Des Moines.

The 2024 theme is The Personality of Breast Cancer. The event features up-to-date information from providers active in caring for breast cancer patients. This program is intended for all health care professionals and individuals interested in the ongoing care and concerns of patients who have survived breast cancer. Breast cancer survivors are encouraged to attend. The event is open to the public.

One of the essential topics will be a discussion of the ways breast cancer care can be impacted by health equity/inequity. Abby M. Gonik, MD, Gynecologic Oncology, MercyOne Des Moines Surgical Care, will lead the presentation that will also compare differences in breast cancer outcomes in people experiencing health care inequity.

Cost: General Public: $30; Health Care Professionals: $40. CE credits are available.
