MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center recognized for infant Safe Sleep practices
May 25, 2023Des Moines, Iowa; May 26, 2023 – MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and West Des Moines Medical Center were recently recognized by the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program as “Bronze Level" certification for their commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep.
As a Nationally Certified Safe Sleep Hospital, MercyOne is recognized for following the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and providing training programs for healthcare team members, and family caregivers.
"Educating new parents and role modeling safe sleep practices immediately following delivery of a new baby helps get the family started on the right track from the beginning. We are proud to be safe sleep certified at MercyOne Des Moines and MercyOne West Des Moines medical centers,” says Kristen Ernsperger, MSN-CNL, RNC, MercyOne Mother-Baby Unit and OB Flex Nursing Director.
The National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program was created in partnership with leading infant health and safety organizations such as All Baby and Child, The National Center for the Review & Prevention of Child Deaths, Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs, Kids in Danger, Children’s Safety Network, American SIDS Institute, Charlie’s Kids, CJ Foundation for SIDS, and numerous state American Academy of Pediatric chapters and health departments.
