August 29, 2024Sioux City, Iowa; August 30, 2024 — MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center has received four American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® and Mission: Lifeline® achievement awards for demonstrating a commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for treating heart disease and stroke. This has ultimately led to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.
Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack, and heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.
Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline put the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence and research-based guidelines. As a participant in Mission: Lifeline and Get With The Guidelines programs, MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center qualified for the awards by demonstrating how their organization has committed to improving quality care.

MercyOne provides a comprehensive cardiac program close to home with services that include open heart surgery, WATCHMAN device, TAVR (minimally invasive valve replacement), heart failure and acute heart attack care,” said Mir Rauf Subla, MD, medical director of Heart and Vascular and Critical Care at MercyOne Siouxland. “The Mission: Lifeline and Get With The Guidelines programs make it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work daily, which helps us ensure more people in Siouxland experience longer, healthier lives.”
This year, MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center received these Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards:
- Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
- Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI Gold
- Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Silver with Target: Type 2 Diabetes
- Heart Failure Gold Plus Award with Target: HF and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
