Learn more about MercyOne Heart Care     Heart Risk Assessment

Michael Glasco is no stranger to heart problems. His heart journey started in August 2021.

“I had a mild heart attack, and I went to MercyOne because they’re the heart experts. They treated me and got me back on my feet.”

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be his last heart issue. The next year he ended up back at MercyOne when he was experiencing breathing issues.

“I couldn’t lay down and sleep because I couldn’t take a full breath. So, I went to MercyOne and told them about my issues. Two nurses came in and put some cream across my chest where my heart was. Within two minutes, it was like a suction cup came out of the sink. I could breathe again, and I thought there was no way. I laid down and sure enough, I could breathe better.”

Providers discovered Michael was having issues again with his heart and needed stents.

“It scared me to death. I worried it was going to hurt or that the issues wouldn’t resolve. Before the surgery, I asked if we could please have a prayer for a successful surgery. MercyOne was there for me emotionally, spiritually and physically.”

Michael had a successful procedure and says he got to watch the monitor the entire time.

“I was just so fascinated by what they were doing. The technology that MercyOne has is something else. They have the technology that needs to be in place everywhere.”

Today, Michael is still managing his heart conditions. He has AFib, an irregular heart rhythm that can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. He says he’s working with his cardiologists to see if he’s a candidate for a WATCHMAN™.

“Just another new technology MercyOne has to save people. I love them to death. I am just so thankful I went to MercyOne. If it wasn’t for them doing what they did, I’m sure I would be dead by now. I’ve been told I only have 25 percent of my heart left. That’s scary. I have to be careful with what I do. I can’t eat salts and I’m strict with my medications.”

Michael says his heart care journey has taught him a lot and changed his perspective on life.

“It makes you wake up and say, wow, life is super short. Don’t worry about material things. Be thankful for what you have in life and help people as much as you can.”
