MercyOne is committed to providing quality, personalized and safe health care close to home. With a 25 bed critical access hospital, we provide a vital lifesaving link to rural communities in Clayton County and surrounding areas through ambulance and emergency services.
Our well-trained board-certified physicians and advanced level practitioners provide care in the emergency department 24 hours a day, seven days a week. MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is certified as a Level IV Trauma Center by the Iowa Department of Public Health and Team members are certified in:
- Advanced Trauma Life Support.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
- Neonatal Advance Life Support.
- Airway Management.
MercyOne Elkader Ambulance
MercyOne Elkader Ambulance is a hospital-based ambulance service and is made possible through the partnership of MercyOne Elkader Medical Center and the City of Elkader.
MercyOne Elkader Ambulance provides 911 service to approximately 300 square miles of area located within Clayton County, Iowa. In addition to providing advanced and basic life inter-facility transports for patients that require higher level of care, the service can provide mutual aid or paramedic level care requested by other EMS services. MercyOne Elkader Ambulance also provides standby coverage for local community events (in case of emergency).
The City of Elkader purchases, maintains and insures the three ambulances, gator and EMS building. MercyOne Elkader Medical Center provides EMS personnel, medical directorship, equipment, supplies, billing and collections and insurance coverage. The two entities split the cost of fuel to run the ambulances.
