Research and Clinical Trials
MercyOne is proud to offer clinical research trials for numerous types of cancer, focusing on prevention, diagnosis, treatment and symptom control.
By partnering with physician-led clinical trials and collaborating with other regional health care providers, we coordinate strategic research activities while continuing to provide comprehensive care for our patients.
At MercyOne, clinical research trials are sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, as well as pharmaceutical and industry partners.
What is research?
Clinical research is medical research that involves individual or groups of people. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), you can volunteer to participate in carefully conducted investigations that ultimately uncover better ways to treat, prevent, diagnose and understand human disease. Clinical research includes trials that test new treatments and therapies, which provide valuable information about how disease and health progress.
What is a clinical trial?
A clinical trial, also known as a protocol, is a carefully designed and executed investigation of the effects of a drug administered to humans. The goal of a clinical trial is to determine how well a drug works. The United States government requires strict testing of all new drugs before they can be used to treat cancer.
MercyOne recognizes the importance of ongoing research in the fight against cancer. We proudly take part in a wide variety of national and regional clinical trials.
Why should you participate in clinical trials?
If you qualify, you can gain hope and possibly receive the newest treatment options while helping researchers find better treatment for others in the future. Reach out to your local cancer center for more information
