After you complete the application, the volunteer coordinator will reach out to you in the next two weeks to schedule interview.
Volunteer Requirements at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center Prior to Volunteering:
- All MercyOne volunteers must be 16 years or older
- Agree to a minimum of six months of service or a minimum of 100 hours per year (this requirement may be adjustable depending on situation or need) • Complete volunteer application below
- Complete interview with Volunteer Coordinator where current volunteer opportunities will be discussed.
- Attend Employee Health appointment where the following tasks must be completed:
- Urine drug screen
- Health assessment and screening
- TB skin test is required
- Provide record of childhood vaccinations
- If record can’t be provided, a blood sample will need to be obtained in our lab to test immunity.
- Copy of COVID-19 vaccination card or sign a declination form
- Copy of flu shot (between October 1st and March 31st) or sign a declination form
- Complete additional Human Resources tasks:
- Background check
- Abuse registry check
- Attend orientation and training after Human Resource clearance
- Participate in annual continuing education and training as needed
SHIIP/SMP Volunteer Opportunity: Counselor
We are looking for a Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) and Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) counselor to assist our community members with understanding their Medicare benefits.
By becoming a SHIIP/SMP volunteer Medicare insurance counselor, you can:
- Feel satisfied knowing you help Iowans make the best decisions for them, save money and gain a better understanding of Medicare.
- Develop new skills or enhance your existing knowledge with excellent training and resources.
- Give back to your community and make lasting connections.
What makes a good counselor?
SHIIP/SMP volunteer counselors enjoy tackling new challenges and learning new information. They gain satisfaction from helping people, are happy to work with diverse populations and value being an objective and trusted source of information. As we learn to connect in new ways, comfort learning new computer skills is also important. Don’t worry – SHIIP/SMP provides excellent training and resources to assure SHIIP/SMP volunteers are prepared and have the tools they need for the counseling and community education.
