Jo Behr Scholarship and Educational Fund

Jo Behr was a registered nurse at MercyOne North Iowa for 30 years. Jo graduated from Mason City High School in 1967 and from North Iowa Area Community College in 1969 with an Associate's Degree in Nursing. Jo carried out many roles at MercyOne including hospital supervisor, charge nurse, primary nurse, preceptor, patient advocate and mentor on the orthopedic/neurology floor.
She cared deeply for her patients; always ensuring they received the best quality care. Her finest qualities included her knowledge, sense of humor and empathy. Most important to Jo were her children Brittany and Ryan, daughter-in-law, Tracie, and granddaughters Halie, Lexie and Rylie.
Scholarship recipients are intended to be residents of the MercyOne North Iowa service area and preferably studying to be an orthopedic nurse.

Dr. George & Eunice Tice Scholarship and Educational Fund

Over the last 27 years, the Dr. George & Eunice Tice Scholarship and Educational Fund has provided over $325,000 in financial support to students wishing to pursue a career in a medical field at any college, medical, or technical school.
Dr. George Tice joined his father in medical practice in Mason City in 1947 and worked as a general surgeon for more than 41 years. Dr. Tice’s wife, Eunice, family members and memorial contributions, started the fund to honor his memory.
After the death of Eunice Tice, the family wished to continue the fund and Anne Tice, MD and her husband Joe Barkmeier, MD proudly provide support for the scholarship fund.
The Tice Scholarship Committee decides upon the amount and terms of the grants. This committee has full discretion pertaining to the recipients and scholarship amounts.
Recipients must be pursuing a degree in medicine, preferably in the surgical specialty, (e.g. Physician - MD or DO), Physician Assistant (PA), Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (RN) to be eligible.

Dr. Steven Goetz and Barbara Scherder-Goetz Medical Scholarship Fund
Application Deadline is April 30, 2022.
The Dr. Steven Goetz and Barbara Scherder-Goetz Medical Scholarship is available thanks to a generous donation by the family of Dr. Steven Goetz who retired in 2020 after an almost 27-year career as a pathologist. Dr. Goetz passed away on February 16, 2021. Barbara Scherder-Goetz received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
Scholarship recipients are to be graduates from a school in North Central Iowa that is in the MercyOne North Iowa service area. Scholarships will be awarded to those pursuing a degree in Laboratory Medicine or Nursing (e.g. Laboratory Tech, Associate Degree in Nursing (RN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), to be eligible.) Recipients must be enrolled in and/or accepted in an accredited medical program.
