Mammograms are quick, easy and save lives

Early detection, diagnosis and treatment are key to surviving breast cancer. Mammograms are still the best way to screen for breast cancer. That’s why all of our imaging centers offer top-of-the-line technology to give you the best screening available, including:

Hologic

Clarity HD

Smartcurve

  • 3D mammography giving doctors a three-dimensional image of breast tissue.
  • Hologic Clarity HD® Technology which generates sharper and more detailed breast images.
  • SmartCurve™ paddle to give you a more comfortable mammogram.

If you have average risk of developing breast cancer, you should get a mammogram every year starting at age 40. Expert radiologist Rachel Preisser, MD, explains how this one step is changing breast cancer survival rates.

With imaging available in Cedar Falls, Waterloo and Oelwein, we are committed to finding breast cancer early.

Before scheduling your mammogram, ask your provider for a referral to MercyOne Waterloo Breast Center.

Expert, accredited care

MercyOne Waterloo Breast Center is the area's only accredited breast center. High Risk Breast Cancer Screening Program

MercyOne’s innovative, one of-a-kind program can help you determine if you have above-average risk of developing breast cancer. If you are at high risk for breast cancer, your doctor will recommend early detection screenings. High risk patients begin breast MRIs at age 25 and screening mammograms at age 30. Our experts work to identify these high-risk factors:

  • Ashkenazi Jewish decent with family history of breast or ovarian cancer
  • Dense breasts
  • Family member with both breast and ovarian cancers
  • Family history of male breast cancer
  • Known genetic mutation
  • One relative diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50 or ovarian cancer at any age
  • Personal history of breast cancer
  • Personal history of chest radiation
  • Previous biopsy with atypical cells, LCIS or ADH
  • Two or more first or second degree relatives diagnosed with breast cancer at any age
  • Tyrer-Cuzick score greater than 20
