Sydney Brotherton, CCC-SLP, specializes in speech therapy at MercyOne Riverside Rehabilitation. 

Sydney is passionate about helping patients of all ages improve their quality of life. 

"I grew up in Park View, Iowa. I went to the University of Northern Iowa for both my Bachelor's and Master's in speech-language pathology. I completed my pediatric clinical rotation in Colorado Springs and my adult clinical rotation in Des Moines. 

I work with infants to help with feeding and swallowing, engaging children in functional skills to increase language development, parent education and training to prompt language rich environments. I also work with adult patients to increase quality of life following traumatic brain injuries, stroke, implementing high and low tech communication devices for individuals with Aphasia. 

The best part about my job as a speech-language pathologist is being able to treat patients of all ages. Every day is something new. I can go from helping an infant with feeding and swallowing to providing care for an adult who is dealing with cognitive decline. I am inspired by the progress my patients make and their determination to improve. I've been able to build lasting relationships with patients and colleagues. I appreciate knowing MercyOne supports my continuous learning. It allowed me to become LSVT LOUD certified in speech therapy for Parkinson's disease and similar conditions. Along with SOFFI certification in supporting oral feeding for infants struggling to eat."
