As a medical student trying to decide which branch of medicine to pursue, Dr. Dettmer was exposed to ENT and immediately knew his future. For him, this specialty has the perfect combination of clinic time and operating room time. In the clinic, he gets to know his patients and provide relief for many of them. Some patients require procedures in the operating room, and he finds it so rewarding to help patients this way. The lifestyle of an ENT doctor isn’t overly stressful, so he has plenty of time to spend with his family and be involved in the community.
Dr. Dettmer especially enjoys working in the Midwest, where I grew up. Being in health care, he gets to make new connections with people every day. His goal is to always educate patients as much as possible. He wants patients to know their diagnosis and different treatment options so they feel confident making informed decisions about their healthcare.
