What is a hospitalist?

A hospitalist is a physician specializing in the care of hospitalized patients. Your doctor may decide to coordinate your care with a hospitalist during your stay here. The benefits for you include 24 hour / 7 day a week coverage while you are a patient at MercyOne Clinton. This means you have access to a doctor’s care around-the-clock, which is especially important in the event of any unforeseen changes in your health.

In addition, hospitalists are available to admit and discharge, which may prevent unwanted delays. Orders can also be given and test results obtained quicker due to the on-site availability of the hospitalist.

Is my doctor aware of the care I’m receiving?

Yes. Our hospitalists have ongoing communication with your doctor in addition to access to your medical history. Upon discharge, a comprehensive report is forwarded to your personal physician for your follow-up care.

Can I see my doctor while I am hospitalized?

The hospitalists will have primary responsibility for your care while you are a patient at MercyOne and will maintain regular communication with your physician. You always have the option of contacting your physician directly while you are a patient here if at any time you have additional questions or concerns.

If I have more questions about this program whom can I contact?

You can speak with your nurse or call 563-244-5695 if you have questions. As always, you may contact our Patient Representative at 563-244-3575 for compliments or concerns about your stay.
