GME, Des Moines, Cardiology Fellowship - Overview


The faculty for the Cardiology Fellowship are physicians at Iowa Heart Center.  Iowa Heart Center is the premier facility for coronary care in Iowa.  Founded in 1970, Iowa Heart Center joined with MercyOne Des Moines in 2009.  

Iowa Heart specialties include advanced heart failure and interventional cardiology, clinical cardiac electrophysiology and adult congenital heart disease.  Fellows will rotate through a variety of services at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and MercyOne West Des Moines Medical Center, such as Cardiac Catheterizations, Electrophysiology, Nuclear Medicine, Congestive Heart Failure, Echocardiography/TEE and the Coronary Care Unit.

The program emphasis is not only on providing our fellows with a superb education, but developing them as a strong physician and professional.  Upon graduation from our program, fellows will be able to provide extensive cardiology care in a variety of settings.

Our Cardiology Fellowship at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is currently ACGME accredited. The program accepts three fellows per class.

We are listed in the Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals, Per Fortune and PINC as a Top 20 Teaching Hospital with a Cardiovascular Residency Program.

All applications are processed through ERAS and we participate in the NRMP match.  Please note, at this time we are only able to accept J1 Visas.
