Birth Center Tours

Downtown Birthing Unit Tours

In-person birthing unit tours are currently being held at both our MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center locations: Downtown and West Des Moines.

Tours will be held twice a month (the 2nd and 4th Sundays) occurring at 1:00 PM and again at 2:00 PM. The size of tour group will be limited, including up to 8 families.

Mom is allowed to bring one labor support person along with her. Families will be screened; and their temperature will be taken. All individuals must be symptom free and wearing a mask. Your tour guide will meet you in the lobby entrance to begin your tour. The tour will include a visit to our Labor and Delivery floor as well as our Mother/Baby Unit floor.

Des Moines Virtual Tour

Our state-of-the-art maternity facility is located in MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center’s East Tower and is comprised of Labor & Delivery, a Mother/Baby recovery unit, the Maternity Triage & Treatment Unit, 24-hour Wellbaby Nursery and the Variety Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  To sign up for a tour of our Downtown Birthing Unit, please register at: https://www.mercyone.org/desmoines/event/downtown-des-moines-birthing-unit-tours

West Des Moines Virtual Tour

Maternity care is also available at MercyOne West Des Moines Medical Center, including the first Level II neonatal intensive care unit in the western suburbs.

Tours will be held the first Sunday of each month occurring at 1:00 PM and again at 2:00 PM. Mom is allowed to bring one labor support person along with her. Families will enter through the Emergency Room Entrance where they will be screened; and their temperature will be taken. All individuals must be symptom free and wearing a mask. Once you are checked in, you will proceed down the hallway to the main Lobby Entrance where your tour guide will meet you to begin your tour.
