Who Are We?
MercyOne Des Moines Auxiliary is a dynamic organization with more than 1,500 members, which has supported the patient care programs and services of MercyOne Central Iowa and its affiliates since it was founded in 1948. Governed by a community board, the MercyOne Des Moines Auxiliary is one of the largest single donors to MercyOne Central Iowa.
Our Mission
To endeavor to serve MercyOne Central Iowa wherever there may be a need we are capable of filling.
Make a Donation
Gifts made to MercyOne Des Moines Auxiliary will support needed patient care programs and services. Most recently, donations to the Auxiliary helped create the Ronald McDonald House at MercyOne Children's Hospital.

In addition to making a special difference in the lives of the patients and families MercyOne Des Moines cares for, Auxiliary members also receive a discount on all purchases at the Auxiliary-managed Gift Shop and Starbucks, and are eligible for special offers and coupons.

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center Gift Shop
The MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center gift shop offers a variety of gifts, fresh flowers and plants, home decor, greeting cards, toiletries, snacks are more. The gift shop can deliver flowers and small gifts to patient rooms. Items in the gift shop are updated regularly.
Flowers are delivered by Boesen Flowers.
Hours Open:
Monday - Thursday: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Saturday: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Sunday: 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
MercyOne Starbucks
MercyOne Starbucks serves the company’s popular coffee and tea beverages and offers a large amount of sandwiches, pastries, whole bean coffee and licensed Starbucks merchandise. Proceeds made at MercyOne Starbucks goes right back to the organization.

Saturday – Sunday: 6:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
MercyOne Des Moines Auxiliary Board
In 1948, Mr. Ralph Branton, Advisory Board Chairman, called together several Mercy Hospital leaders to initiate an interest in Mercy and Mercy School of Nursing. Advisory board member, Mary Northup, was elected as the first Chair of the new Mercy Auxiliary. The first meeting was held on November 5, 1948. The Auxiliary started with a service cart, flower delivery and a sewing committee.
History Highlights
- 1950 – The Auxiliary launched its baby photography program which continues today known as our Bella Baby program.
- 1991 – The Guild’s name was officially changed to Mercy Auxiliary of Central Iowa.
- 2007 – MercyOne Starbucks opened in East Tower of MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
- 2008 – The Auxiliary became 100 percent self-funded.
- 2014 – MercyOne Starbucks Warming Program was added.
- 2019 – Mercy Auxiliary of Central Iowa is renamed to MercyOne Des Moines Auxiliary.
MercyOne Des Moines Auxiliary has donated more than $10 million to MercyOne Central Iowa and its affiliates, making the Auxiliary one of MercyOne Central Iowa’s largest donors. The Auxiliary is also one of Mercy College of Health Sciences' largest donor having donated more than $2 million.
