Donor Spotlight: Joyce Chapman
June 29, 2022Joyce Chapman believes in the transformative, life changing work at MercyOne House of Mercy.
MercyOne House of Mercy is one of Iowa’s most comprehensive providers of vital behavioral health services. The organization provides high-quality, evidenced-based substance use disorder treatment and mental health programs to individuals and families, including the state’s largest long-term residential treatment program for women and children.
Joyce was first introduced to MercyOne House of Mercy when she was on the MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center Board of Directors. She recalls taking a tour of the 1409 Clark St. location and being impressed with the work being done.
“It is very hard work for these individuals who are going through treatment,” said Joyce. “MercyOne House of Mercy is helping them get a firm base for the rest of their lives.”
“MercyOne House of Mercy helps these individuals get an education, learn how to raise a family, supports them in their sobriety and offers them vocational help as well.”
Joyce is grateful knowing her gift is directly impacting the transformative, personalize care offered to the women and their children who are working on bettering themselves.
“This is tough work for them but I hope they stick with it because the reward will be worth the effort for themselves and their children,” said Joyce. “This certainly takes strength.”
“MercyOne House of Mercy provides wonderful programs to get these women and children back on their feet.”
As a leader in the Des Moines community, Joyce sees how important MercyOne House of Mercy programs like group therapy, mental health treatment, self-sufficiency programming and more are for our community. Programs like these make a big impact. She hopes more people get involved and support the transformative work being done here.
“There’s a lot of work to be done out there,” said Joyce. “If a person wants to get involved to make a difference, MercyOne House of Mercy would be the place.”
