Corporate Spotlight: Community Choice Credit Union
April 29, 2021
MercyOne Central Iowa and Community Choice Credit Union have enjoyed a strong partnership for more than 15 years. In 2006, the Des Moines Mercy Credit Union joined with Community Choice. Today, around 1,800 MercyOne colleagues are members of Community Choice.
In 2010, Community Choice worked with MercyOne Des Moines Foundation to expand the Employee Relief Fund, which supports MercyOne colleagues experiencing a hardship or special circumstances in need of financial relief.
“Through further conversations, we found that nurses, providers and other health care workers needed more support on a daily level,” said Kasey Vogel, Director of Brand Strategy and Business Development at Community Choice Credit Union.
The Remarkable Mercy Experience Fund was established in 2018 by a $50,000 lead gift from Community Choice to support nurse rounding and to provide resources for nurses who spent their personal dollars on items for patients.
“When establishing this fund, we loved the fact that we are able to be impactful to more health care workers than ever before,” said Kasey.
“Community Choice Credit Union is pleased to continue and strengthen our partnership with MercyOne Central Iowa and support its mission of helping those most vulnerable in our community,” said Josh Cook, CEO at Community Choice Credit Union.
“Beyond the history of our organization, this partnership strongly aligns with our principal of creating positive experiences for our members and helping others succeed in our community.”
2021 marks the third year that Community Choice is generously sponsoring MercyOne Central Iowa Nurses Week, a weeklong celebration of nurses. This year’s events take place the week of May 3.
“We have appreciated and supported nurses and all health care workers for many years, but especially this year,” said Kasey. “We cannot thank them enough for everything they have done for their patients, their community and for MercyOne as a whole.”
In alignment with MercyOne’s cultural belief of Personalize Care, each MercyOne Central Iowa nurse is receiving an UNwind kit, courtesy of Community Choice Credit Union, filled with essentials to help nurses relax and feel appreciated.
Community Choice also provides vital support to MercyOne House of Mercy and was instrumental in propelling the 2019 House of Mercy Game Show Gala to unprecedented fundraising success.
“MercyOne House of Mercy provides a one of a kind service to our community you can’t get anywhere else,” said Community Choice Credit Union CFO and MercyOne House of Mercy Board Member, Erik Sorenson.
“Partners that support and believe in their mission and are passionate about them being successful enables an underserved population to have proper access to resources.”
