OB Emergency Department
In an effort to provide the absolute best care to our patients, MercyOne Women & Infants’ Center is pleased to offer the the only OB Emergency Department in the Metro at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
This program provides hospital-based, OB/GYN physicians (hospitalists) on-site at MercyOne Des Moines 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. These highly-skilled, board certified OB/GYNs provide emergency care to those arriving in the OB Emergency (OB ED).
Our mission is to elevate the standard of women’s health care by ensuring every expectant mother is evaluated and treated by a physician regardless of time, location, complication or circumstance.
OB/GYN Physician Availability
The OB ED is located on MercyOne Central Campus in the East Tower on Level 3. It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Patients are evaluated within 30 minutes of being admitted. In the event your physician is not available during an emergency, OB/GYN hospitalists can examine you, evaluate the progress of your labor, review test results and fetal heart rate tracings. They will address any evolving issues and provide you and your baby with a safe delivery.
Our hospitalists will be in communication with your physician and will have access to your prior medical records.
Seperate Antepartum Unit Ammenities
MercyOne’s Antepartum Unit is located on Level 3 of Mercy’s East Tower. Antepartum suites are utilized by mothers who need inpatient care prior to delivery. Patients are given warm, comfortable and private suites to stay in during their stay-no matter the duration. Ammenities include:
- Specialized nursing care for high-risk mothers
- Sleep sofas for a support person
- Flat panel televisions with DVD players
- Small refrigerators for personal use
- Complimentary room service for the duration of your stay
- Wireless internet access
- Large windows to allow for lots of natural light
- Spacious bathroom with updated fixtures and hair dryer
- Unprecedented access to physical and emotional support and resources
