Substance abuse is a serious disease. Through counseling and education, MercyOne Horizons helps patients and their families learn the most important thing about substance abuse and addiction: how to recover.
Today, pressure is felt from every side and coping is a daily struggle. Individuals may turn to alcohol or other drugs as a way to deal with or escape the problems of everyday life. All too often this solution creates more difficulties and can lead to the demise of health, family, financial security and self-esteem. Left untreated, the addictive power of alcohol and other drugs will become a destructive cycle affecting the chemically dependent individual and their loved ones. Horizons can help break this cycle.
The Treatment Team
A wide variety of professionals works together to facilitate the treatment program for chemically dependent individuals and those who have been affected by a loved one’s addiction. Their coordinated approach addresses the physical, emotional and spiritual toll taken by substance abuse. Our team includes psychiatrists, physicians, counselors, registered nurses, chemical dependency technicians, recreational therapists and clergy.
Evaluation
Our trained professionals assess individuals who are concerned about their chemical usage and those wishing to or who are required to seek treatment. The confidential assessment includes a clinical interview and also completion of a screening questionnaire. Written impressions and recommendations will be provided regarding the presence and/or extent of chemical dependency and suggested form of treatment. Horizons also provides evaluation that meet the requirements for OWIs and the Federal Department of Transportation.
Treatment Options
The treatment process focuses on examining how drinking/using has affected self and loved ones. Horizons offers several types of treatment to meet the needs of patients throughout the recovery process. All treatment is covered under federal confidentiality laws.
Medically Managed Detoxification: For individuals going through detoxification and in need of 24-hour physician and nursing care to assist in the withdrawal from alcohol or other substances.
Inpatient: For individuals in need of structure and support beyond that which is available through outpatient programs.
Intensive Outpatient: This level of care allows individuals to meet work, family, or school responsibilities. The individual spends nights at home, but has structured groups and activities during the day to explore their behaviors and the effects of chemical dependency. These groups are available days or evenings.
Evening Outpatient: Issues of behavior and effects of chemical usage/dependency are explored in evening sessions which allow individuals to meet work, family or school responsibilities during the day.
Co-Occurring Disorders: An intensive outpatient group that specifically addresses issues of addiction along with other mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, schizophrenia and others.
Pre-Treatment: Classes for individuals who have issues related to substance use but do not meet the criteria for addiction treatment. These classes examine the physical and psychological effects of alcohol and other drugs.
Relapse Treatment: An outpatient program for those with a history of relapse. This program focuses on identifying relapse warning signs, developing management strategies and gaining education on the phases of relapse.
Family Treatment
At Horizons, we know family involvement is crucial for long-term recovery. Family members have been affected by the patient’s illness and need to be involved in the treatment. Without this healing of the family, there may be little support for the recovering patient, a factor critical for long-term success.
Horizons involves the family through family education and awareness. Families learn about the illness of their loved one and are invited to attend segments of the treatment process with the patient. Sessions are held for family members and concerned parties that include education about chemical dependency and insights from recovering individuals.
Admission
