At MercyOne, we provide you care and support from pregnancy to labor and delivery. Should your baby need advanced care, be assured our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has the advanced training and technology to provide the care you need for a pre-term or sick newborn.
MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center is the only Level 2 NICU in the north Iowa and southern Minnesota region.
If your baby requires a longer stay, a room will be provided for parents to keep you and your baby together. Room and meal service will be available until your baby goes home.

When a child is in need of hospital or critical care, it’s comforting to know specially trained and educated physicians are available to meet your child’s needs 24/7.
MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center has pediatric hospitalists to care for pediatric, newborn and pre-term patients. These board-certified pediatric physicians are experienced and highly trained with their sole focus on the hospitalized care of children and babies. Your child will receive personalized, quality and safe pediatric, specialty and critical care.
Pediatric hospitalists at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center oversee care in our Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). They lead an advanced neonatal care team coordinating all aspects of your child’s care beginning immediately upon an infant’s arrival or birth.
Our pediatric hospitalists have access to advanced state-of-the-art technology and high-tech monitoring technology vital in the care of critically ill babies. This helps in delivering care including:
- Respiratory care and support for infants experiencing respiratory distress
- Treatment of neonatal pneumonia
- Prematurity
- Sepsis
- Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
- Persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN)

MercyOne is blessed to collaborate with neonatology specialists at the Level III advanced neonatal intensive care unit at MercyOne Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. Our pediatric hospitalists consult with these experts in determining the correct treatment and level of care.
