Reference Laboratory Services
MercyOne North Iowa’s Laboratory is a regional reference lab that provides testing for a North Iowa network comprised of 10 rural hospitals and approximately 40 physician clinics. As a result, your laboratory testing is conducted locally. The benefits to you include:
- Timeliness of Results - The tests performed in the office lab are available for the physician the same day. The majority of the test results on specimens sent to the local reference lab are returned the next day.
- Continuity of Medical Record - When testing is performed locally, a comprehensive medical record is ensured.
- Specimen Quality - The accuracy of your test result is dependant upon maintaining specimens at appropriate temperatures and conditions until the testing can be performed. Tests done in the office are performed the same day. Specimens sent to the reference laboratory are picked up by the lab courier, are stored at proper temperatures and are delivered to the laboratory for testing.
- Access to Consultants - Laboratory pathologists and consultants are available to discuss and interpret your laboratory results if needed.
A courier service is available six days a week and client services staff are available from 6:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. to take phone calls and to receive specimens into lab.
