MercyOne Des Moines Awarded Over $130,000 from Variety - the Children's Charity
September 29, 2020MercyOne Des Moines has been awarded over $130,000 from Variety – the Children’s Charity to enhance the care and services to Iowa children at MercyOne Children’s Hospital and MercyOne House of Mercy.
A $120,000 grant is designated to MercyOne Children’s Hospital to fund innovative technology in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): a new NicView Streaming Camera System and Stryker Nara Bassinet.
“It is extremely challenging and stressful for families to have a baby born premature and/or with significant health issues, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic, when parents are limited in the amount of time they can spend with their babies in the hospital,” said Rachel Evans, NICU Nursing Director at MercyOne Children’s Hospital. “The addition of this innovative camera system will allow families to bond with their babies and connect with their care team when they cannot be at the hospital.”
A $10,167 grant was awarded to House of Mercy for renovations to create a multipurpose room in the Child Development Center.
“The multipurpose room will provide House of Mercy with a flexible space to suit the needs of the children we serve,” said Director of MercyOne House of Mercy, Rebecca Peterson.
“We are so pleased to partner with Variety and are grateful for its generosity to our MercyOne family,” said Shannon Cofield, President of MercyOne Des Moines Foundation. “The organization’s enduring legacy of serving the most urgent needs of kids in our community is outstanding, and we are appreciative of the important care these grants will provide.”
