If you have an emergency, please do not hesitate to call anytime! A physician is always available by calling 515-643-6888.

MercyOne Perinatal Center offers a complete spectrum of services dedicated to mothers-to-be including care for high-risk pregnancies, obstetric ultrasounds, diabetic care, prenatal screenings and inpatient care.

We are proud to be the largest maternal fetal medicine (MFM) group in Central Iowa with three board certified maternal fetal medicine (MFM) physicians including the only MFM geneticist in the State of Iowa.

Our expert team can care for patients from preconception to prenatal diagnosis to delivery planning. We strive to provide care as soon as it is needed, with same or next day appointments often available for urgent issues.

Children are welcome in our office, but please
remember they have a short attention span and can quickly become bored
“watching the baby.” We ask that you bring another adult to watch younger
children during your appointment. If you are unable to make other
arrangements, please call to reschedule your appointment.

Specialized Care

While most pregnancies proceed normally, some require special care. This may be due to a special circumstance known in advance of pregnancy, such as when a mother has a pre-existing medical condition. Other complications with a pregnancy may be discovered during prenatal testing or during the course of the pregnancy. MercyOne Perinatal Center partners closely with the MercyOne OB ED and MercyOne Maternity Care in Des Moines and West Des Moines hospital locations.

You should seek special care before you become pregnant if you:

  • Have diabetes
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Are pregnant before age 18 or after age 34
  • Have a history of miscarriage, stillbirth or pre-term labor
  • Have a family history of genetic disorders
  • Have been exposed to drugs, X-rays or other harmful agents
  • Are extremely over- or under-weight
  • Have tested positive for HIV and/or other sexually transmitted diseases
