Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

The goal of the Cardiology Fellowship Training Program is to provide fellows with comprehensive structured cognitive and procedural clinical education in both inpatient and outpatient settings

Enabling them to become competent, proficient and professional cardiologists in the six core competencies.

This training will further enhance MercyOne North Iowa's ability to provide healthcare to a population in need of more physicians in Northern Iowa.

Salary and Benefits

4 $67,500 $2,000 above PGY 3
5 $69,500 $2,000 above PGY 4
6 $71,500 $2,000 above PGY 5
7 $73,500 $2,000 above PGY 6

Vacations

Fellows receive twenty-one (21) working days of time off per year of fellowship.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

  • PGY4 - $1000 and five (5) days of leave for conference attendance
  • PGY5 - $2000 and five (5) days of leave for conference attendance
  • PGY6 - $2000 and five (5) days of leave for conference attendance

Core Benefits

The hospital’s core benefits program is a comprehensive benefits program available to residents the first day of employment. Professional Liability

As part of your fellowship, you are provided medical malpractice coverage.

Food Services

Residents will have an allotment per academic year for meals purchased in the Hospital’s cafeteria during working hours.

Housing

Fellows will receive priority in obtaining housing owned by the hospital, located within five minutes or less walking distance from the hospital. Pets are not allowed in hospital-owned housing at this time.

Dues, Memberships and Licenses

The hospital will pay for all state of Iowa licenses and Federal and State DEA. Additionally, we will pay for membership in National, State and County organized groups (AOA, ACOI, AMA, IMS, and Cerro Gordo County Medical Society).

Health Club Membership

Family memberships are provided to all residents to the Mason City YMCA.

Moonlighting

Moonlighting is available upon receiving an Iowa Permanent License and with the consent of the Program Director.

Interview Expense

Applicants are provided with up to two nights lodging.

Sign-on/Transition Allowance

A one-time sign-on/transition allowance of $1,400 is provided.

Miscellaneous

Lab coats and scrubs are provided. Each resident will receive a laptop for use during residency training.

Fellows will spend one-half day in the clinic each week of the 36-month training program, in addition to the rotations outlined below: (rotations-13 block)

Year 1

  • 1 block – Cardiovascular Review
  • 1 block - Catheterization Laboratory
  • 2 blocks – Echo
  • 2 blocks - Nuclear
  • 4 blocks – In-Patients
  • 1 block - CICU
  • 1 block - Electrophysiology
  • 1 block - Night Call

Year 2

  • 2 blocks - Catheterization Laboratory
  • 2 blocks – Echo
  • 2 blocks - Nuclear
  • 3 blocks – In-Patient
  • 1 block - CCU
  • 1 block - Electrophysiology
  • 1 block – Night Call
  • 1 block – Elective

Year 3

  • 3 blocks - Catheterization Laboratory
  • 2 blocks – Echo
  • 1 block – Night
  • 2 blocks - In-Patient
  • 1 block - CCU
  • 1 block - Electrophysiology
  • 1 block - Elective
  • 1 block - In-house Elective
