Julie Hutchens, MS, LMHC specializes in mental health counseling at MercyOne Des Moines Behavioral Health. She sees patients at MercyOne East Village Family Medicine.

She is board certified with the National Board for Certified Counselors and is independently licensed with the State of Iowa Board of Behavioral Health Science as well as with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. 

Her philosophy of care centers around listening and getting to know her patients and their families in order to provide effective, compassionate support so they can live their best lives. 

Julie said, “I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families, as well as patients across the life span. I provide evidence-based interventions drawn from cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy and gestalt therapy.” 

In addition to practicing general mental health therapy, she is particularly passionate about helping people in their efforts to heal and grow beyond past trauma, PTSD, depression, OCD, panic disorder, anxiety, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. 

Julie added, “I am an Iowa native who values time with family and friends. My hobbies include hiking, cycling, kayaking, and meditation. I also enjoyed living and working in the southwestern part of the U.S. for several years after completing undergraduate studies in Colorado and graduate studies in Arizona.”
