Milk Depot
Decades of research have established that human milk is the perfect food for infants. MercyOne has partnered with Mother's Milk Bank of Iowa to help babies in need gain access to human milk. The Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa stores and distributes human milk to those who need it. If you have a surplus of milk and are looking to donate it, please contact the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa at 877-891-5347. Though they appreciate all who are interested in donating, there are certain qualifications one must pass in order to donate.
Milk Depot
Many MercyOne birth centers are approved milk depots. Donors who have been certified through Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa provide their frozen milk to the depot. Then, the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa retrieves the donation and processes it for use.
Milk depots are available to receive human milk donations at MercyOne hospitals in Clinton, Des Moines, Dubuque, Mason City and Waterloo. Please call your local birth center for drop off times.
Milk Dispensary
MercyOne Clinton Birth Center, MercyOne Dubuque Birth Center and MercyOne Waterloo Birth Center are approved breastmilk dispensaries. They stock healthy, pasteurized donor milk available for purchase for any parent/guardian who needs it in the community, even if you delivered your baby at another medical center. To receive donor milk, you need a prescription from your doctor. The cost is $15 per bottle. Please call for pick up times.
