Donor Spotlight: Valley Church
May 26, 2020Valley Church in West Des Moines has a common saying, “We love you Des Moines,” which is shown by the amount of support and encouragement they give back to the community.
“When the COVID-19 pandemic hit our community, we started looking for ways to serve and show love to our community,” said Director of Community Bridges at Valley Church, Jeremy Dyvig. “We reached out to MercyOne Des Moines Foundation to see what we could do and how we could help those on the front lines.”
MercyOne Des Moines was one of the health care organizations Valley Church supported during this time. Funds donated provided snacks to front line workers throughout the months of April and May at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and West Des Moines Medical Center.
“We wanted to do what people needed and wanted to meet that need however we possibly could,” said Jeremy. “We are happy to be able to provide front line workers with a little extra fuel through these snacks.”
In addition, members of Valley Church also sent hundreds of handwritten cards with uplifting messages to MercyOne Des Moines staff.
“Valley Church members wanted MercyOne Des Moines front line workers to know that they are not alone, that they are not sacrificing in vein, that there is a community behind them, supporting them and praying for them,” said Jeremy. “We are very thankful for what they are doing. We see them, though we don’t walk in their shoes, we understand the sacrifice, stress and challenges they face.”
MercyOne Des Moines colleagues have expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the snacks and cards Valley Church has provided.
“We know the health care world has been impacted in many different ways, and when this pandemic is in the rearview mirror for us, it doesn’t go away for those in the health care world,” said Jeremy. “MercyOne Des Moines has been a significant part of our community and will continue to be for a long time, it is important that we continue to support those organizations who are so engrained into our community.”
