Volunteer at MercyOne Newton

MercyOne Newton Medical Center is fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who volunteer their time, talent or resources to help the hospital. Volunteers may work from just a few hours a month to several days or evenings a week, depending on their availability.

Auxiliary

The hospital's Auxiliary offers many opportunities for service.

Some volunteers work directly with patients, while some choose to work behind the scenes. The Ambassador volunteers enjoy greeting patients at the front door and answering questions from the public. Still others prefer clerical duties and spend their time answering phones or scheduling patients.

Volunteers also assist in fundraising by staffing the Auxiliary gift shop, or helping with the annual Gala fundraising event. They also assist with blood drives, health fairs, addressing and mailing. Learn more by visiting our Auxiliary page.

Hospice

Another special way to serve is through MercyOne Newton Hospice. Some volunteers are trained to work one-on-one with terminally ill patients and family members. Others would rather help with mailings, writing thank-you cards to donors, or other administrative tasks.

Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP)

Volunteers for SHIIP provide free, unbiased counseling for Jasper County residents who receive Medicare or Medicaid coverage. They meet one-on-one with clients, helping them make decisions about their coverage. SHIIP volunteers have helped hundreds of Medicare recipients choose an appropriate Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.

If you would like to volunteer for SHIIP, please call 641-791-4899.
