History and Heritage
For more than 140 years, Catholic women religious communities ran health care organizations in Iowa. The Religious Sisters of Mercy and the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters built the first hospitals, schools of nursing and other health ministries in our state. Now a member of Trinity Health, based in Livonia, Michigan and one of the largest Catholic not-for-profit health systems, MercyOne provides award-winning health care to our communities.
MercyOne is an integrated system of hospitals, clinics and other health care facilities that stands on the shoulders of these faith-based women and their Mission. We are dedicated to delivering personalized health care and improving the health of people in the communities we serve.
With more than 2,000 physicians and advanced practice clinicians, across 21 medical centers and 23 affiliated organizations with nearly 23,000 colleagues, MercyOne is one of the largest health care systems in Iowa and beyond.
