MyHospitalCare Frequently Asked Questions

MercyOne’s patient portal is an important way for patients to access and understand their health information once they leave our hospitals. The portal makes it easier for hospital patients, their caregivers, family members and clinicians to collaborate on the patient’s hospital care, which leads to better outcomes and healthier communities.

What is the patient portal?

Similar to online banking or other websites people use every day to manage their lives, MyHospitalCare is an online tool that allows you to check your hospital test results and access key health information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How much does it cost?

MyHospitalCare is a free service!

Is my medical information safe?

We take great care to ensure your health information is kept private and secure. Access to information is controlled through secure invitation process, personal IDs and passwords. Each person controls their password, and the account cannot be accessed without that password. Details about your health remain between you, the hospital, and your care team.

When can I see my test results in MyHospitalCare?

Your test results will be viewable in the patient portal immediately after the results are put into your health record. The following test results are currently not available to view in MyHospitalCare: Tests indicating Sexually Transmitted Diseases, HIV, Hepatitis Serologies, Pregnancy Test, and tumor markers.

Why are certain test results not shared in the portal?

Tests of a very sensitive nature are not released to MyHospitalCare.

Why did I receive notifications from two different patient portals?

MercyOne Northeast Iowa currently uses two different patient portals. MyHospitalCare is for records associated with your hospital stay, and another portal called MyCare manages information about your clinic visit. To provide you with comprehensive care, some lab and imaging results are shared in both hospital and clinic records, depending on where the test was performed or the ordering provider. Since the information is shared in both departments, this may trigger email notifications from both portals for the same results.

If some of my information on MyHospitalCare is not correct, what should I do?

If you think anything in your health record needs to be corrected, contact MercyOne Medical Records by calling 319-272-7801.

Can I enter my own personal health information in the portal?

Yes. Under Account Settings, select “change settings with Cerner Health,” and select the Health Record tab to add your personal information. This information is for your own reference and will not be part of your hospital medical record. You may share this self-entered information by selecting ”Share This Record.”

Can my spouse and I share one MyHospitalCare account?

You and your spouse will have separate accounts.

Are my children’s hospital records available in MyHospitalCare?

We are aware of an issue in Cerner Health that prevents access to medical records for patients ages 0-12 years old. Cerner Health is aware of the problem and is working on a resolution. Thank you for your patience while Cerner Health works to fix this issue. Patient information is available to you through our MercyOne Medical Records office. As always, patient records for individuals aged 13-18 are not available due to privacy policies.

When I log-in, the sign-in screen says “Cerner Health.” What is Cerner Health?

MercyOne Northeast Iowa has chosen Cerner to manage our hospitals’ electronic health records. By also using Cerner to power the MyHopsitalCare patient portal you can be assured that your health information is never leaving the secure Cerner system.

My doctor’s office uses a similar portal. Do I have to sign up for MyHospitalCare if I am already using theirs?

The patient portals used by other health care providers are separate systems. These other portals do not communicate to one another. MyHospitalCare gives you access to your health information related to your stay at MercyOne hospitals in the northeast Iowa region. Hospital stays in other MercyOne regions and information from your clinic visits require different patient portals.

Why do I need to re-register for a MyHospitalCare account?

MyHospitalCare has completed a security update. This update will make accessing your medical information online, through a computer, tablet or smartphone, safe and easy. It will also provide you with a better user experience and enhanced security. There have been no security breaches with your current account.

How do I re-register for a MyHospitalCare account?

We invite you to re-register by following these instructions:

  • Verify your identity by entering your legal first name, legal last name and date of birth.
  • Verify your email address and set up a username and password.
  • Select three security questions. Be sure to supply answers that are not easy for others to guess or discover.
  • If your first name, last name and date of birth that was used for registration matches an existing patient record, a PIN will be sent to your phone that you will need to enter online to verify your identity.
  • Once your identity is verified, you’ll be able to access your patient record.

Who can I contact about my account?

For specific questions about your health records, contact MercyOne Medical Records by calling 319-272-7801. If you have questions about your health information, contact your care provider.
