Breast Care
At MercyOne, we believe mammograms can save lives. Early detection is key and that’s why yearly mammograms are essential. With imaging available in Cedar Falls, Waterloo and Oelwein, we are committed to finding breast cancer early. When discovered, diagnosed and treated early, we know the chances of recovery are higher. That’s why all of our imaging centers offer top of the line technology to give you the best screening available including:
- 3D mammography provides a three-dimensional image of breast tissue
- Hologic Clarity HD® Technology generates images of the breast that are sharper and more detailed
- SmartCurve™ paddle means a more comfortable mammogram

When time matters most, we offer 24-hour to same-day results for biopsies and mammograms in most instances. Patients who need diagnostic testing will have a face-to-face conversation with a provider for the results from their tests.
Cedar Falls Mammography
Hours of operation: 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–5 p.m.

MercyOne Waterloo Breast Center
MercyOne Waterloo Breast Center is the area's only accredited breast center, offering a full array of services. From the initial multidisciplinary appointment, expert, convenient and personalized care is our commitment to you, your family and your caregivers.
Should cancer be detected, we are here every step of the way. We provide the comprehensive care you need from screening and surveillance to surgery and individual cancer treatment plans. A dedicated breast care navigator guides you and coordinates your care, including attending appointments, meeting with family members and helping connect you with support services.
MercyOne provides convenient access to the right level of care in the right location for you. We help you take control of your breast health by offering multiple screening locations in Cedar Falls, Oelwein and Waterloo, with referral to the Waterloo Breast Center. The breast center offers:
- Strategies: High-risk breast-cancer screening and prevention strategies
- Support: A healing approach to cancer care, including a breast care navigator, emotional support, nutrition planning, rehabilitation and wellness

Breast Center Accreditation
When you visit a breast center with accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) you can be assured it is held to the highest standards of care for patients with diseases of the breast. Our breast center is proud to be the only NAPBC accredited breast center in the area. Should cancer be detected, we are able to provide all the comprehensive services you need to move beyond breast cancer to the celebration of life as a cancer survivor.
High Risk Breast Cancer Screening Program
We have established an innovative, one of-a-kind program designed for early recognition of patients with an increased risk of developing breast cancer. Our experts work to identify the following high-risk factors:
- Dense breasts
- Tyrer-Cuzick score > 20
- Personal history of breast cancer
- Previous biopsy with atypical cells, LCIS or ADH
- Known genetic mutation
- Two or more first or second degree relatives diagnosed with breast cancer at any age
- One relative diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50 or ovarian cancer at any age
- Family member with both breast and ovarian cancers
- Family history of male breast cancer
- Ashkenazi Jewish decent with family history of breast or ovarian cancer
- Personal history of chest radiation
