“Every person is unique and so are their heart and health care needs.” That’s something Ida Mazza, MD keeps at the front of her mind every day at MercyOne Siouxland Heart and Vascular Center.
Dr. Mazza has over 20 years of experience in the medical field and completed her residency and fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.
“I’m not quite sure when my love of medicine began,” she said. “Over the years there’s been frustrating times and cases, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.”
As the largest cardiac provider in Iowa, MercyOne continues to be the regional leader in clinical heart research, with cutting-edge therapies - including new drugs, medical devices and surgical procedures. It’s something Dr. Mazza said brought her to MercyOne.
“It’s important to find a way to give patients the highest quality of care. Often times that means finding a way to integrate my experience with state-of-the-art technology.”
As a general cardiologist, Dr. Mazza often sees it all when it comes to the heart: the most important muscle in your body. For her, that means working hand in hand with her patients to improve their health.
“Healing hearts is more than drug infusions or other procedures. You do that by treating medicine as an art. The art of listening and trying to understand what the patient is going through. The art of finding a way to work together, with the patient, to help them live their best life." When she's not at work, Dr. Mazza enjoys scuba diving, hiking and spending time with her daughter.
