American College of Cardiology

Chest Pain MI Registry Performance Achievement AwardThe MercyOne Siouxland Heart and Vascular Center was recognized by The American College of Cardiology's Chest Pain-MI Registry with a Platinum Performance Achievement Award for delivering the highest quality in cardiovascular care in order to transform heart health in the tri-state area in July 2019.

MercyOne Siouxland is one of only 225 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

The award recognizes MercyOne Siouxland’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that the Heart and Vascular Center has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

To receive the Chest Pain-MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award, MercyOne Siouxland has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain-MI Registry for eight consecutive quarters and has performed at the top level of standards for specific performance measures.

American College of Surgeons

MercyOne Siouxland's Regional Level II Trauma Center continues to hold the prestigious verification of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). ACS program verification attests that MercyOne adheres to rigorous standards for excellence in emergency medicine. As the highest-ranking Emergency Department in western Iowa, MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center is also the only one in the region to hold ACS trauma program approval.

MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center has the only cancer care program in the area that is accredited by the Commission on Cancer--American College of Surgeons.  In order to earn this distinction, an oncology program must provide state-of-the-art pretreatment evaluation, staging, treatment and clinical follow-up for cancer patients.

American Association of Blood Banks (AABB)

MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center is one of just 23 hospitals in the United States to have earned the prestigious accreditation of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) for perioperative transfusion services. Mercy is also the only medical facility in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Missouri, Michigan and Illinois to hold the distinction. In fact, the only other hospital to earn such designation in the Upper Midwest is St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

The perioperative process allows blood lost by the patient during surgery to be processed, recycled and returned to the patient’s body. The process minimizes the amount of donor blood that is utilized, which makes it safer for the patient and also preserves more of the blood supply for those who need it.

American Diabetes Association

The American Diabetes Association has awarded MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center's Diabetic Education Program with ADA Recognition.  The ADA Education Recognition effort is a voluntary process which assures that approved education programs have met the National Standards for diabetes Self-Management Education Programs.  Programs that achieve Recognition status have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide state-of-the-art information about diabetes management for participants. 

American Heart Association

MercyOne Siouxland Heart and Vascular Center has received a Gold Plus rating with the American Heart Association's (AHA) 2019 Get with the Guidelines- Heart Failure and special mention for the Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll award. A Gold Plus rating recognizes MercyOne's consistent compliance with AHA's quality measures.

Also, MercyOne Siouxland has received an AHA Gold rating for being a 2019 Mission: Lifeline- STEMI Receiving Center, which is one of the highest awards for treating the most critical patients with heart issues.

Every year hundreds of thousands of people experience an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the deadliest type of heart attack caused by a blockage of blood flow to the heart, that requires timely treatment. To prevent death, it is critical to restore blood flow as quickly as possible, either by mechanically opening the blocked vessel or by providing clot-busting medication.

MercyOne Siouxland also earned the Mission Lifeline NSTEMI Gold Performance achievement award by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for quick and appropriate treatment of NSTEMI heart attack patients.  MercyOne Siouxland provides procedures and medications to re-establish blood flow to partially blocked arteries when needed and with appropriate medications and follow through after a heart attack, including cardiac rehab, dual antiplatelet therapy and smoking cessation counseling.

US News and World Report

US News and World Report lists MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center as a high performing hospital in the area of Heart Failure.  Only 11% of hospitals nationwide, who were rated in this condition, were high performing.  High-performing hospitals exceeded expected standards of care

Wellmark® Blue Cross® and Blue Shield®

Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield has named MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center as a Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery.  Facilities that have received the Blue Distinction Centers for Spine SurgerySM designation have demonstrated experience in comprehensive inpatient spine surgery services, including discectomy, fusion and decompression procedures.
