Supporting Colleagues in Need through the Caring Fund
September 10, 2024As the largest employer in Cerro Gordo County, MercyOne North Iowa employs a workforce equivalent to that of a small town. With this significant employee base, there are inevitably colleagues facing crises at any given time
Paula Kruthoff, MercyOne North Iowa colleague, said it well when increasing her recurring payroll deduction to support the Caring Fund. "Our colleagues walk roads many of us never see, and being able to support them is so important for those who have the resources to give."
The MercyOne North Iowa Caring Fund has been a lifeline for colleagues facing crises for over two decades and has helped hundreds of them during medical emergencies, natural disasters and while experiencing other hardships.
Over the years, the Caring Fund’s impact has been profound. It has assisted colleagues who lost nearly everything during major flooding in 2008, whose homes sustained damage from a tornado in 2021, and during other times of significant need. In the past year, MercyOne colleagues have given back $35,000 to MercyOne North Iowa colleagues from the Caring Fund. In the decades since the fund was established, over $1,000,000 has helped support our colleagues in need.
Every dollar donated makes a difference. Colleagues experiencing hardship request help for anything from paying their monthly electric bill to affording groceries for their family.
Thank you for pulling together as ONE to help those facing crises for over 25 years!
