MercyOne’s Student Medical Assistant (SMA) training program is a partnership between Mercy College of Health Sciences, MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and MercyOne Iowa Heart Center. Students who choose to enroll in Mercy College’s Medical Assistant program may also apply for a MercyOne SMA position.

  • If selected, applicants will receive all tuition and book fees paid for by MercyOne and a contract to remain employed during the program and for two years following.
  • Through Mercy College’s online program, students will work full-time while going to school making a competitive wage as a SMA.
  • The SMA position is designed to integrate what students learn in school with what they are doing on the job.

After completion of the program and successfully passing of Certified Medical Assistant exams, colleagues will be moved to a full-time Certified Medical Assistant position at MercyOne, with a pay increase.
