Oelwein Medical Center is a 25-bed, critical access hospital providing acute, skilled, and outpatient care to the community of Oelwein and surrounding area. Oelwein Medical Center provides general medical care, ambulatory care, long-term care and recovery. Services include 24-hour emergency room access and ambulance transportation, radiology with MRI and CT scanning, 3D mammography and ultrasound, laboratory, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, rehabilitation therapies, spiritual care, social services and nutrition. 

In addition, we provide access to certain high-technology capabilities to the community through mobile accommodations. Beyond providing exceptional and compassionate health care service on a daily basis, MercyOne extends its healing Mission into the community through numerous programs and resources for all.

Ambulance – Hospital owned and operated ambulance is the 911 responder for the community. 

Outpatient Services – Services include IV antibiotic therapy, injections, minor excisions, wound care, blood transfusions, EKG, specimen collections and other services as needed. Services are provided by caring staff in a patient and family friendly environment. 

Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Care – The nationally-certified cardiac rehabilitation program is designed to help patients with heart disease recover faster and return to living full and productive lives. Interdisciplinary services include education, exercise and counseling. Staff includes nurses, dietitians, physical therapists and social workers. 

Cardiopulmonary Care – Nationally recognized professional staff offer a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic services for both inpatients and outpatients. Services include respiratory therapy modalities, stress tests, echocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, holter monitors and sleep studies.

Diabetes Counseling & Nutrition Education – Our registered dietitian is available to educate individuals about the importance nutrition plays in preventing and treating disease. A dietitian and nurse, both certified Diabetic Educators, can provide valuable information uniquely designed for each individual person and situation. Now with 24 hour glucose monitoring available.

Emergency – Oelwein Medical Center’s emergency services department provides 24-hour emergency service to Oelwein and surrounding communities. Physicians scheduled on-site in ER 24/7.

Hospice – End-of-life support provided on Acute and Long Term Care floor. Respite program also available for care providers.

Intensive Care – Featuring state-of-the-art technology, this two-bed unit offers the highest quality services for critically ill patients.

Laboratory – Joint Commission accredited, our laboratory offers a wide range of testing, using the most advanced technology available.

Medical unit – Located on the second floor, this unit features 18 private rooms for medical patients. Services provided include: inpatient, outpatient, observation, outpatient infusions, transitional care (self pay) and short term swing bed skilled.

Imaging – Using advanced technology available, MercyOne Imaging includes 3D mammography, ultrasound, CT scanning, nuclear medicine, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), bone density scans and X-ray diagnostics.

Rehabilitation Care – A comprehensive rehabilitation program using an interdisciplinary goal-oriented approach in helping people with physical disabilities develop the skills they need to live as independently as possible. Services include: physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language therapy.

MercyOne Oelwein Occupational Health - Quality and convenient occupational health care to businesses and their employees. Worker injury treatment, employment testing - such as DOT, physical exams and screenings, drug and alcohol screenings and more.

MercyOne Oelwein Urgent Care - When life brings you a few bumps, bruises, and sprains, visit Urgent Care! Urgent Care is ideal for life’s little accidents and ailments such as abrasions, bruises, scrapes and small cuts; coughs, colds, fever and flu symptoms; ear, eye nose and skin infections; minor burns and minor fractures; sprains and strains. Online scheduling is available! 

Specialty Care – Specialists on-site include behavioral health care, cardiology, podiatry, internal medicine (nephrology) and urology.

Sleep Center - Our Sleep Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The Sleep Center is designed to evaluate and classify sleep patterns and stages of a person’s sleep, identify various sleep problems and determine treatment if indicated).

Williams Wellness Center - The Williams Wellness Center offers fitness and recreational programs for community members of all ages throughout the year.

Visiting Hours

Family members and friends are encouraged to visit.

Visits may be limited due to the patient’s condition and doctor’s recommendations. Should special circumstances arise, feel free to ask your nurse or caregiver if alternate visiting hours may be arranged. To provide exceptional and compassionate health care to our patients, visitation will be restricted if visitors have an obvious illness or communicable disease. Visitors should always respect the patient’s wishes while maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and security to others. Patients may decide who can and cannot visit. Please discuss any concerns with the patient’s caregiver.

Children are permitted to visit a friend or loved one. It is the responsibility of the family member to supervise their children at all times. Any child with a communicable disease or obvious illness will be restricted from patient contact and waiting areas.
